Upgrade Engineering
Once the Thermal Rating Analysis study is complete, the client is now ready to make an informed decision on available upgrade opportunities or alternatively, to operate the line under the constraints identified.
With a decision to proceed to W.I.R.E. Services’ upgrade engineering service level, it is necessary to identify the new thermal upgrade temperature limit. This is where the Utility Experience of W.I.R.E. Services becomes so valuable. There are many new and cost effective methods available to upgrade transmission lines and W.I.R.E. Services' parent company, Manitoba Hydro has employed many of them. Based on this extensive Utility Experience we can help you find the best upgrade options for your power lines.
W.I.R.E. Services has experience using the following upgrade methods:
- PhaseRaiser
- Nip&Tuck®
- Structure Replacements
- Re-span
- Tower Extensions
- Re-conductor
- Re-sag
Each method of upgrade has advantages and disadvantages. Based on the results of the Thermal Rating Analysis, W.I.R.E. Services can recommend which upgrade method, or combination of upgrade methods, would be best suited for a particular line.
Features of Upgrade Engineering Solutions are:
- Complete feasibility and cost benefit analysis studies performed before to ensure the clients needs are met
- Based on LiDAR data perform optimum Re-Rating opportunity analysis to the client's specifications
- Conduct the technical studies required for the upgrade as required (sag-tension, structural analysis, etc)
- Prepare and issue re-rated Plan & Profile drawings
