Transmission Line Modelling

W.I.R.E. Services utilizes LiDAR data to create an "As-Built" model of the transmission line conductors, structures, terrain and aerial obstacles in either PLS-CADD or TL-PRO file formats.  With the help of client supplied information, these models are created to match your existing line records.   Using accurate LiDAR data is the only true way to do complete line verification of As-Built conditions.

Our LiDAR data collection and processing specifications are set with Transmission Line Modelling needs in mind making modeling in PLS-CADD as simple as possible.  Some examples are:

  • Data is collected fast (approx. 100km/hr) so that Electrical Loading and Weather Conditions remain relatively constant and the transmission line is in a steady state condition.
  • High Frequency Digital Waveform Lasers results in multiple returns per pulse and hits on all conductors (even small ones).
  • LiDAR points for each conductor are separated onto their own feature code, which allows for easy graphical sagging.
  • Vegetation Thinning, if applicable, to ensure file sizes are manageable in PLS-CADD.
