Thermal Rating Analysis

W.I.R.E. Services has the ability and resources to conduct and provide a full Thermal Rating Analysis of the surveyed transmission line.

The Thermal Rating Analysis utilizes LiDAR data to create an "As-Built" model of the transmission line wires, structures and corridor terrain in either PLS-CADD or TL-PRO™ file formats.   With this accurate information, W.I.R.E. Services is able to create a model of the line and conduct high temperature simulations to identify critical clearance issues to ground features, aerial obstacles and vegetation.

This service truly helps you understand the problems and limitations you face and provides better information for you to make knowledgeable upgrade decisions.

Features of the Thermal Line Capacity Verification process are:

  • Post processing of all collected data.
  • Computer modeling in PLS-CADD or TL-PRO™ to determine actual maximum operating temperature.
  • Analysis performed by experienced utility engineers, familiar with many different codes (CSA, NESC, AECUC, etc).
  • Analysis based on client specified clearances and criteria.
  • Table based reporting including Thermal Rating and Actual Clearance Distance for all spans.
