Products and Services
W.I.R.E. Services provides solutions to the Electrical Utility Industry using LiDAR technology.
W.I.R.E. Services main area of business starts with creating “As-Built” computer models of existing power lines. The first step is performing a LiDAR Survey along the power line corridor which becomes the base information. With this data, a Transmission Line Model is created verifying the as-built conditions of the line. W.I.R.E. Services is then able to simulate any operating condition by raising the temperature of the wire to determine the maximum Thermal Rating of the line. This knowledge truly helps you understand any operating or capacity limitations on your lines. Knowing the actual Thermal Rating of your line allows you to make knowledgeable decisions when considering capacity upgrades.
Once the Thermal Rating Analysis is complete and you've decided upon an upgrade temperature, the next step is our Upgrade Engineering service. This is where the Utility Experience of W.I.R.E. Services becomes so valuable. There are many new and cost effective methods available to upgrade power lines and W.I.R.E. Services has employed many of them. Based on this extensive Utility Experience, we can help you find the best upgrade options for your power lines.
Through the use of LiDAR data, W.I.R.E. Services is also able to provide Vegetation Management services. To help ensure you are NERC compliant, we can provide a detailed report showing locations of trees that pose an imminent danger to the transmission line.
If you are re-building an old line or need a brand new line, W.I.R.E. Services can help you here as well. Our New Route Surveys service will help choose an optimal route for your new line. Utilizing our extensive Transmission Line Design experience, we are also able to complete all the engineering work to get the line built and operational.
LiDAR technology has other benefits to Utilities outside of transmission line applications. Through our Wide Area Mapping services, we have provided products to assist in the completion of such things as engineering and environmental studies for new generating stations and watershed mapping projects.
