New Route Surveys
W.I.R.E. Services can provide Utilities with Airborne LiDAR survey data for the routing of new transmission lines. The survey is conducted in much the same way as data collection over existing transmission lines, except the pilot is following a pre-defined path with the help of the survey grade GPS navigation. W.I.R.E. Services can provide single pass corridor swath widths from 200 meters to over 500 meters wide, depending on specific requirements.
A LiDAR survey for a new transmission line route allows the designer to fully optimize the placement of structures resulting in the most cost effective design. When accessibility to the site is difficult, a LiDAR survey is the only tool available.
Features of the New Route Survey include:
- Project management and survey control in project area
- Airborne LiDAR data collection of route corridor
- Feature coding of point data into terrain, vegetation and other classifications
- Extraction of DTM bare earth points
- Creation of bare earth TIN (triangulated integrated network) model
- Deliver in PLS-CADD™ or TL-PRO™ file format
With experienced Transmission Line Design Staff, W.I.R.E. Services can take a new route survey through to a completed design, ready for construction. For more information, please visit our Transmission Line Design Engineering page.
